U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 5-12 (District 11s) is located in Long Beach California and conducts missions in and around the two of the largest port complexes in the U.S.:  Los Angeles  and Long Beach.  If we sound familiar, we are.  On January 1, 2010 Flotilla 33 of Long Beach got a new designation and became Flotilla 5-12.

The purpose of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary (CGAUX) is to assist the Coast Guard to:

Promote safety and to effect rescues on and over the high seas and on navigable waters
Promote efficiency in the operation of motorboats and yachts
Foster a wider knowledge of, and better compliance with, the laws, rules, and regulations governing the operation of motorboats and yachts and to facilitate other operations of the Coast Guard
.
